Lindberg Ford
F150 4x4 pickup truck model kit.
This
truck represents the pickup truck generation from 1997 to
2013. They were all pretty much the same with very minor
cosmetic differences.
The
kit builds well with just a few annoyances.
The
interior is very tight when inserting into the cab. The
dash has to go over a lip, while the back of the interior
tub has to squeeze into the location against the back window.
It's
tricky and took several attempts. There is no sloppy fit
here like what is common onother model kits you might be
used to. Tolerences are tight.
In
the end, the rear window came loose at the top point but
it isn't visible unless you get down low and look. So I
chose not to make another (fourth) attempt to get it all
right.
The
rims didn't fit as well as I think the could have on the
spindles, and keeping them straight (vertically) was a challenge.
Even though I use a jig with magnets to hold them all in
place to dry once they are glued on.
I
was quite happy with everything else. The one piece bed
is a pleasure to have and only the tailgate needs to be
attached.
The
V8 (probably a 5.4L) looks good although it's only a stock
engine.
I
dechromed the wheels and painted them black. The tires are
really well done for a 4x4. The front suspension is very
accurate, and tricky to assemble (much like the real truck).
The
body is painted Tamiya Orange. The interior is an off white.
I added a duffle bag to the front seat just for interest.
The
chassis was detailed with various shades and colors of paint.
It's not a mistake on the rear leaf springs. Ford intentionally
bowed the frame rails in to make the truck track better
(an old trick from race cars technology).
