From WWII in the 1940s on up to the Jeep Wrangler of today.
The
Jeep started as a WWII vehicle. It quickly gained a repuation
as a reliable and hardy truck for almost any kind of use. After
the war Jeeps were used in the farming industry, USPS, and many
other uses.

MB
Jeeps. They were primarily made by Willys and Ford during the
war. Hasegawa, Italeri, and AMT / MPC make models of the miltary
Jeeps. (Note: the MPC military Jeep also contains parts to make
an early CJ series model. It's sort of a hybrid kit).
Fine
Molds makes a slat-grille military Jeep (before the the stamped
grilles came into being), and Asuka Models makes an early Bantam
Jeep kit. Meng and Takom and also makes Jeep models.

1945
- 1986
These
were made primarily from 1945 to 1986. The CJ7 and CJ8 being the
last models to roll off the assembly lines. AMT / MPC and Revell
make model kits of the CJ series Jeeps.

The
YJ Wrangler Jeeps were made from 1987 to 1995. They were met with
mixed results - some die hard Jeep fans did not like the square
headlights. But the straight 6 was a reliable workhorse engine.
Tamiya makes kits of the YJ models.

- 2006
These
were known as the TJ series Jeeps. Round headlights returned and
the seven slat grille continued to complete the Jeep's iconic
looks.

The
Jeep Wranglers became even more popular with a 4 door now available.
Revell and Meng make models of the JK Wranglers.

- Up
The
Wrangler continues to be popular today. Some major changes were
made (the windshield not longer folds down for instance), and
a new pickup version is now produced. Who knows what the future
Jeeps will be?
