This
is a Dodge 4x4 Monster Truck
model kit.
There
is a series of these kits, maybe five or six different ones.
Including the Raminator and Ramunition versions.
At
first glance you might be thinking, "Monster trucks
kits - those are past their prime". But one look at
these kits, and all that falls away.
They
have a modern race style chassis. They include a Hemi V8
engine, so they're far from a curbside model. They're not
a snap kit either - break ut your favorite glue.
The
truck body alone is 10 inches long. (luckily the entire
model is molded in white - but I actually thought it might
be molded in green before I ordered it, going by the box
image).
I
chose this Weird-Ohs version because it looked like it had
some fun graphics, even if I don't use them all. These kits
are also relatively cheap at this time.
This
is a race truck for sure. With that being said, it will
be a challenging model to build, even for experienced kit
modelers.
The
HEMI is supercharged with sweeping exhaust pipes. The detail
is not bad for this kind of kit. There is a single center
racing seat for the driver.
Almost
the entire truck is built off or or around the chassis structure.
A transmission and transfer case are provided too.
The
truck includes race shocks and large axles (military style?).
And of course, the 4 huge rubber tires.
The
paper directions seem easy to follow, and even have photographs
along the way to help with the build. A major plus for the
process.
The
body's hood does not open, which is normal (monster trucks
are serviced from underneath, or the entire body comes off
or tilts up to reach the engine).
The
decals are printed with bright colors. The decal placement
page seemed to be a good illustration for a youngster to
color later on.
I
feel this is another Lindberg kit that doesn't get the recognition
it deserves. It's a well engineered kit from the looks of
it and should be a good project to build.
