City has released a 1:24 scale, 39 inch tall Disney Moonliner
TWA Rocketship resin model kit.
This is a replica model kit of the ship
that stood at Disneyland outside the "Rocket to the
Moon" attraction, from 1955 to 1966. The kit includes
all parts, paint templates, and Microscale decals. The fuselage
is a two large casting, joined in the middle. So there is
only a minimal amount of filler is used to hide this joint,
and really the only one on the model. The legs are reinforced
with cast-in brass tubing, and the cockpit canopy is also
cast in brass for the ultimate in strength.
Small black discs are provided for the porthole
windows. Photo-etched gratings must be curved and trimmed
to length for the perfect fit. The 3 legs are held in place
by one screw each, making it possible to remove the legs
if the model is put into storage. The base includes pre-assembled
hand-railing and photo-etched metal gratings for the lighting
trench. (Note: the kit does not include materials for lighting,
you will have to do this on your own of course).
This kit is both nostalgic and futuristic
at the same time!
